- rose meadow for a Chelsea debut
EADT Suffolk Magazine feature
Suffolk garden designer Colm Joseph, and his design for a ‘rose meadow’, were featured in May’s edition of the EADT Suffolk Magazine. Colm’s debut garden at the RHS Chelsea Flower Show 2019 included a version of this rose meadow planting idea.
The idea of a rose meadow builds on the concept of ornamental meadows or perennial meadows, associated with the New Perennial Movement in garden design. The principle idea is to create a perennial meadow with long seasonal interest through texture, structure, form and colour with the use of a sustainable mix of perennials, ornamental grasses, bulbs and annuals. The rose meadow concept attempts to achieve this with roses forming up to one-third of the mix of plants used. In this way, roses become part of a relatively low maintenance planting scheme with year round interest.
